Joe Griffin, a sixth-generation Texan, was conceived and lives in Austin, Texas.  He grew up working in his dad’s pharmacy and on the family’s farm and ranch.  In high school he was active in the Future Farmers of America, most sports, the Boy Scouts of America, rodeos and calf scrambles.  His dad’s hobby was organic vegetable gardening, and farming and ranching ...but from a Pharmacist’s perspective.  Griffin’s childhood experiences and upbringing helped prepare him for today!

After high school, and prior to attending college, Griffin served in the U.S. Navy on a Combat Pilot Search and Rescue Team, and as a Navy Emergency Ground Delta Force member.  Griffin was later attached to a Heavy Attack Squadron aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Forrestal.  He was honorably discharged and awarded the Bronze Star Medal, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.

After serving in the military, Griffin attended college – first in Houston, then Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. He majored in business, and minored in marketing sociology. Joe is a single and multi-engine rated private pilot, a Master Diving Instructor, and holds a Property and Casualty Insurance License. Immediately after college he started his land development and construction career.

Joe’s learning, training, and experience is in real estate, land development and as a master builder. A brief description of his extensive knowledge is building tract and custom homes, multifamily, light commercial, and resort projects. He has developed and built in the deserts, in the mountains, on lake and ocean fronts, in warm and cold climates, in seven states, and in most soil conditions with all types of building materials.

Joe Griffin’s first employer was a Dallas, Texas development and building company that employed him as an Assistant Construction Superintendent. After gaining the necessary experience, he left the company to advance his career as a full superintendent with another Dallas company and was transferred to Tucson, AZ. While in Tucson he constructed two large apartment projects.

Soon after completion of the apartments, he was offered, and accepted the position - first as Assistant - then General Construction Manager for Dell Webb/Fairfield in Green Valley AZ. He helped develop multiple residential subdivisions and build over 2,000 modest to up-scale retirement homes for down-sizing seniors.

With substantial knowledge from his construction experiences, Griffin went into business for himself and founded two companies – one for commercial, and the other for residential construction projects. As President and CEO of both companies he built custom and tract homes, motels, fast-food franchises, office buildings, strip shopping centers, and apartment complexes.

Later in his career Joe opened offices in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Houston, Texas. In these and other locations, he served as an adviser and consultant on resort development, construction build-out, and marketing and sales of the projects. During the turbulent late 1980’s and early 1990’s his clients were U.S. government agencies and the RTC. As a consultant Griffin help package commercial and industrial properties foreclosed-on by lenders across the USA for sale to domestic and foreign investors.

Griffin, who founded Select Investments in Austin, Texas over two decades ago, is considered to be in the prime years of his career. One of his personal goals is to help propel an awareness of how land developers and home builders can stop using building products that harm the environment. He’s available for speaking engagements with conservation and affinity groups, and the public. He consults and advises land developers, home builders, and investors on Energy-efficient, Economical, and Earth-friendly Designed Homes (E3D) for Enteligreen’s Sustainable Places Agrihoods (E-SPA’s).

Enteligreen’s E3D MiniHomes and MicroHomes for America’s poor, the homeless, the military, third-world countries, and disaster areas are near and long-term plans ...leadership by example continues to be his style!
